First-generation students at The University of Alabama may apply for a First Gen Opportunity Grant or a First Gen Success Grant for financial support in specific circumstances. This is not a scholarship to attend The University of Alabama to cover tuition, fees, housing, or utilities/rent.
Note: Completing an application does not guarantee funding. All applications are reviewed by a selection committee and students will be contacted when a decision has been made.
First Gen Opportunity Grant
First-generation students at The University of Alabama may apply for an opportunity grant to support them in a variety of experiences that financial situations may prevent them from attending. Students can apply for up to $500 for domestic trips and $1000 for international trips. Opportunities include but are not limited to:
- Beyond Bama Trips
- Study Abroad Trips
- Industry Immersion Trips
- Internships/Co-Ops
- Academic, Leadership, or Research Conference
First Gen Success Grants
First-generation students at The University of Alabama may apply for up to $250 in a success grant to support them in a variety of situations or circumstances. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Access to required technology or equipment
- Professional attire for interviews, internships, or events
- GRE/LSAT/MCAT prep materials or exam costs
- Honor society or professional organization membership dues
Donate to First-Gen
The UA First office often receives requests from students for financial assistance for unexpected emergencies. Click the give button below to contribute to our support fund that enables us to assist with these requests. Once you are redirected to give.ua.edu, use the search bar to find the First Generation Program Support Fund. Donations can be a one-time or recurring gift. Thank you for your support!
