Peer Leaders

As a Peer Leader, you will play a multifaceted role in guiding first-year students through their academic journey. You'll act as a coach, providing support and mentorship tailored to the course you're leading. Being a positive role model is essential as you help students navigate their first year of college. Additionally, you'll serve as an undergraduate teaching assistant in your assigned compass course, aiding in instructional tasks. Building strong relationships is key, fostering rapport with first-year students, fellow peer leaders and instructional staff to create a supportive learning environment.

What is required of a Peer Leader? 

  • Once selected, Peer Leaders are required to: 
    • Attend the Spring Peer Leader Meet & Greet event. 
    • Enroll in UA 110 – Peer Leader 101 (one credit hour, graded course). 
    • Attend all class times for the compass course you are assigned. 
    • Create and sustain a positive working relationship with your compass course instructor. 
    • Plan and execute engagement opportunities for first-year students in your assigned course.

Annually, the Peer Leader application opens in February and closes in August. Interviews are conducted continuously until all spots are filled.
