Become a Navigator
Be the Navigator of the first-year experience by serving as an ambassador for the Office of First Year Experience! Navigators will conduct outreach calls to first-year students, represent FYE at various marketing functions, host weekly walk-in hours for first-year students, and support the office with communication efforts and monthly programs. Use your college experience to help navigate incoming students through their first year!
Expectations and Position Responsibilities of Navigators
- Must be willing to share their experience and be passionate about supporting new students.
- Must have completed at least one semester at UA.
- Must be enrolled at UA as an undergraduate student for the 2024-2025 academic year.
- Host four office hours per week at a set schedule. These hours will serve as walk-in Compass Talk times for a student to visit the office without an appointment and be able to meet with a student.
- Support and attend a minimum of 3 FYE associated events per semester such as Get on Board Day, Class Presentations, FYE Fridays and other promotional opportunities.
- Host Welcome Week Information Stations in the first week of fall and spring classes.
- Attend a monthly team meeting for professional development, discussion of experiences, and support brainstorming of new initiatives for the office.
- Remain in constant communication with the Office of First Year Experience.
Timeline & Commitment
- Mandatory Navigator Retreat: August 20, 2024 from 9 a.m. – Noon.
- Monthly Meetings: Schedule determined when Navigators are selected.
- Weekly Office Hours: 4 hours per week on a set schedule for fall 2024 and spring 2025 at Russell Hall.
- An hourly stipend will be provided for weekly office hours.
