Whether you’re meeting new friends, connecting with faculty, navigating campus, participating in community service, learning how to prepare nutritious meals or navigating living with roommates, the Welcome Home Block Party has a variety of experiences to help you step into your home away from home at UA.
Time Specific Experiences
First Step to Knowing Where You’re Going: Class Tours
Learn how to read your class schedule, log into Blackboard and find your classes with help from UA First Student Leaders. They can also take you on central campus tours and share how to use campus maps and transportation. This breakout session will operate during the following time blocks:
- 1:00 p.m.
- 1:30 p.m.
- 2:00 p.m.
- 2:30 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m.
- 3:30 p.m.
First Step to Healthy Habits: Meal Prep 101
Join the Department of Health Promotion & Wellness to learn quick meal ideas, microwave-friendly recipes, and practical nutrition tips designed for busy college students. Discover how to stay fueled, energized, and ready to make the most of your first year at UA. This breakout will operate during the following time blocks:
- 1:15-1:45 p.m.
- 2-2:30 p.m.
- 2:45-3:15 p.m.
- 3:30-4 p.m.
First Step to Living With Roommates: Conflict Resolution Skills
This breakout session gives students the opportunity to learn tips and tricks for living with others while workshopping through scenarios and actions to resolve common roommate conflicts. This breakout will occur during the following time blocks:
- 1:15-1:45 p.m.
- 2-2:30 p.m.
- 2:45-3:15 p.m.
- 3:30-4 p.m.
First Step to Finding Your People: Friendship Fair
Ready to meet people at UA? Speed connect for friends and complete fun activities through rotations and engaging conversations. This breakout will occur during the following time blocks:
- 1:15-2 p.m.
- 2-2:45 p.m.
- 2:45-3:30 p.m.
Come and Go Experiences
First Step to Faculty Interaction: Faculty Interaction Lounge
Interact with faculty in a relaxed environment with conversation prompts and light refreshments. Faculty are one of our greatest resources on campus! Here you can ask questions, learn effective ways to engage with professors when you need help in class, and to develop relationships that may lead to future opportunities
Steps We Take Together: Service Project with CSL
The CSL will be providing a short-hands on service-project with the opportunity to learn more about how to get involved with their office and serve the community. Students will also receive one hour of BamaPulse credit.
First Steps to Connect to UA and Campus Community: Campus Resource Fair
Campus partners with vital resources will be on site with the opportunity to learn more about services, the campus community and how to make UA feel more like home.
First Steps to Setting Up Home: Pennant Designs
You can visit the craft space to create a pennant for your residence hall room to add a little personalization to your new home space.
