Be the Navigator of the first-year experience by serving as an ambassador for the Office of First Year Experience! Navigators will conduct outreach calls to first-year students, represent FYE at various marketing functions, host weekly walk-in hours for first-year students, and support the office with communication efforts and monthly programs. Use your college experience to help navigate incoming students through their first year!

Success Consultations

First Year Navigators provide opportunities to meet one-on-one with a current student for Success Consultations. You can discuss any topics related to you or information you would like to know during a Success Consultations. Appointments will be available to schedule starting in August 2024.

Expectations and Position Responsibilities

    • Navigators must be willing to share their experience and be passionate about supporting new students.
    • Navigators must have completed at least one semester at UA.
    • Navigators must be enrolled at UA as an undergraduate student for the 2024-2025 academic year.
    • Navigators will host 4 office hours per week at a set schedule. These hours will serve as walk-in Compass Talk times for a student to visit the office without an appointment and be able to meet with a student.
    • Navigators will support and attend a minimum of 3 FYE associated events per semester such as Get on Board Day, Class Presentations, FYE Fridays, and other promotional opportunities.
    • Navigators will host Welcome Week Information Stations in the first week of fall and spring classes.
    • Navigators will attend a monthly team meeting for professional development, discussion of experiences, and support brainstorming of new initiatives for the office.
    • Navigators will remain in constant communication with the Office of First Year Experience.

Timeline and Commitment

    • Application Due: April 10, 2024 at Noon
    • Interviews: April 15 – 19, 2024
    • Notification of Selection: April 22, 2024
    • Mandatory Welcome Event: April 26, 2024 at 3 p.m. (If unable to attend, please note during Interview Process)
    • Mandatory Navigator Retreat: August 20, 2024 from 9 a.m. – Noon
    • Monthly Meetings: Schedule determined when Navigators are selected
    • Weekly Office Hours: 4 hours per week on a set schedule for fall 2024 and spring 2025 at Russell Hall
      • An hourly stipend will be provided for weekly office hours.
