About

As a first-gen focused community, Legacy Scholars aims to provide resources to first-gen students for the fulfillment of their educational journey, including academic and social support and opportunities for personal and professional development. 

“What you do is your history,
what you set in motion is your legacy.” 

Legacy Scholars offers multiple ways for students to find connection, including: 

  • Monthly community dinners with other first-gen students, faculty, and staff 
  • Signature events including, First-Gen Celebration Week, industry immersion trips, and a graduation reception
  • Participation in mentorship with a UA Faculty or Staff member 
  • Workshops throughout the academic year to support your success and development at UA 
  • One on one meetings with the First-Gen Programs Staff 

Upcoming Events

August 19: Your First 48 & Campus Tour at 10am, 214 Russell Hall. Designed for first-year students, this 30-minute workshop will cover everything you need to know to be successful in your first 48 hours as a student at UA. Following the workshop, our student advisory board leaders will break up into groups to share insider tips on how to navigate campus. Please register to attend.

August 27: Legacy Scholars Fall Kickoff at 6pm, Yellowhammer & Camellia Rooms in Gorgas Library (2nd floor). Come meet other first-gen students, as well as faculty and staff who are part of the Legacy Scholars community. Free Dreamland BBQ, first come first serve. August 29: Nursing Promotion Workshop at 5pm, CCN 1035 (Nursing Building). All first-gen lower-division Nursing students are invited to come hear from Advisor Ashley Green on everything you need to know to increase your changes of upper division promotion in the College of Nursing. September 9, 11, and 12: Career Prep Week! RSVP
Legacy Scholars is partnering with the UA Career Center on Campus to promote their Career Center Prep Week workshops! The career center is an extremely valuable resource as students can seek guidance selecting a major, planning a career, developing job-search strategies, and ultimately, helping students plan out a path for their future! Join us in The UA Student Center for these events.

Bagels & Basics: Handshake
• 9/9 at 11 am
• It can be a bit overwhelming to explore job postings, and even know where to look for opportunities. This workshop highlights the importance of Handshake and provides practical tips on how to get started.

Career Fair Prep
• 9/11 at 5 pm
• “What do I say, how do I dress, how do I carry myself?” These are completely normal questions, and the career fair prep workshop can answer all of them!

Headshot & LinkedIn Support
• 9/12 at 11 am – 2 pm
• This is a come-and-go event from 11 am to 2 pm. Get your professional headshot taken!

September 17: Math Tips Workshop at 5pm – MSB 3011 RSVP
Let’s be honest, math can be a bit challenging for many students! Because of this, we have a workshop for first-gen students that includes strategies for getting the most learning out of your math effort!

September 23: Off-Campus Housing Workshop at 3pm – Russell Hall 356 RSVP
At this workshop, students learn everything they need to know about securing off-campus housing, including: When to start your search and key deadlines to keep in mind, tips on finding the best locations and what to consider, and everything in-between!

September 24: Community Dinner at 6pm– Russell Hall 323 RSVP
Monthly community dinners are foundational to the Legacy Scholars community! On September 24th, we would love all first-gen students to Come to 323 Russell Hall to kick back and unwind with us. Community dinners are a great way for students to find connection and build community!
