The Office of Student Academic Engagement & Advocacy intentionally broadens the impact of student success programming and offers opportunities for engagement with diverse student populations. Our office is home to initiatives that address equity gaps in retention, persistence, and graduation. Home to the BRIDGE program, Lucy’s Legacy, and Bama Transfers, our programs seek to build community, increase access to resources for students, and help students navigate the academic responsibilities of college. All of our programs have multi-level mentoring experiences and opportunities to expand students’ social capital beyond the scope of The University of Alabama.
BRIDGE: BRIDGE is a community of undergraduate men of color at The University of Alabama. With hundreds of members in our community, BRIDGE is designed to empower students to leverage campus resources for their success and cultivate a community of men who support each other as students and friends. The BRIDGE experience begins with a weeklong kickoff event for first-year students led by a group of upper-level student leaders called the BRIDGE Builders.
Lucy’s Legacy: Lucy’s Legacy is a living-learning community (LLC) for women of color interested in exploring the historical significance and experiences of women of color at The University of Alabama. This living-learning community is named in honor of Dr. Autherine Lucy Foster, the first African-American student to attend The University of Alabama. As a member of this community, you will be part of a group of first-year women who enroll in a shared academic course, benefit from mentoring and resources, and form a peer group to share in their first-year experience
Bama Transfers: The Office of Student Academic Engagement & Advocacy (SEA) is home to the Transfer Student Programming at The University of Alabama. In SEA, we work to provide support to transfer students during their transition to life at the Capstone. Are you a new transfer student wondering where to begin transition to UA?
