Hello UA First-Gen Family!

Welcome to 2024! Our fall semester was a whirlwind of so much excitement and celebration of our first-gen community at UA. For students new to Legacy Scholars, it’s never too late to connect. Please join us this semester! For our returning students, I look forward to seeing you again at our spring events.

In case you are new to, or unfamiliar with who we are, Legacy Scholars is the name of our first-gen community at UA. Out tagline is “what you do is your history, what you set in motion is your legacy.” We are an amazing and diverse group of people with one thread that ties us together: we’re all first-gen, and we’re all figuring out how to navigate the college experience together. Being a part of Legacy Scholars just means having a wide network of support around you. It’s knowing you are not alone, and you don’t have to try and figure out things on your own. In addition to other first-gen students, we have a supportive community of faculty and staff members, many of whom were also first-gen students, who are committed to your success. You can become a part of Legacy Scholars at any point in your UA journey by signing up on our mailing list. We keep an updated schedule of monthly events here and would love to meet you!

Faculty and staff, if you are interested in being a part of our community, whether as a mentor to a first-gen student or as a campus partner, please email me (randi.hamm@ua.edu) or complete the mentor interest form here.

Students, I love connecting with you all one on one and welcome meetings to answer questions you have or just to say hello!

Roll Tide!
