The University of Alabama has First Generation Scholarship Programs that offer support and scholarship awards to first generation students.

Our First Generation Scholarship Programs are highly competitive, and a limited number of scholarships awards are available each year. If you are a senior in high school, please use the UA Scholarship Application to apply. The First-Gen Scholarships are all located on the Supplemental Scholarship Application found on MyBama. Be sure to check the box on both the admissions application and the scholarship application that you are a first-gen student (you will then be asked to verify this).

Each Fall semester, scholarship award winners come into the University as a cohort through First-Gen Scholars, a partnershipFirst Generation Scholarship students between First-Gen Programs and the Honors College. The Honors College First Gen Scholars is a close-knit community of faculty, staff, and students that supports first generation students throughout the entirety of their undergraduate experience, while also preparing them for graduate or professional school. Each cohort of students benefits from deeper relationships with UA faculty and staff, meaningful undergraduate research opportunities, upper-class student mentors, and additional resources to help fund experiential opportunities. Students in the cohort attend Honors Action together and take the same UH 100 class in their first semester.
