The University of Alabama has First Generation Scholarship Programs that offer support and scholarship awards to first generation students.

Our First Generation Scholarship Programs are highly competitive, and a limited number of scholarships awards are available each year. If you are a senior in high school, please use the UA Scholarship Application to apply. The First-Gen Scholarships are all located on the Supplemental Scholarship Application found on MyBama. Be sure to check the box on both the admissions application and the scholarship application that you are a first-gen student (you will then be asked to verify this).

First Generation Scholarship students Each Fall semester, scholarship award winners come into the University as a cohort through First-Gen Scholars. Each cohort benefits from deeper relationships with UA faculty and staff, meaningful undergraduate engagement, upper-class student mentors, and additional resources to help fund experiential opportunities. Students in the cohort attend an extended orientation and take the same General Studies freshman compass course focused on the first-gen identity and transition to college. The cohort remains together throughout their first year through on- and off-campus connection events, with continued opportunity for engagement into the second year and beyond.
