BRIDGE is an academic support program at The University of Alabama for undergraduate men. Through a community interested in exploring the historical experience of black and Hispanic/Latino students at UA, the Bridge program provides academic support through peer-led mentorship, mandatory study halls, one-on-one coaching, major workshops, and career exploration in order for students to make the most of their academic experience at the Capstone. With hundreds of members in the program, BRIDGE is designed to empower students to leverage campus resources for their academic success and cultivate a supportive community as students and friends. The program is led by professional staff and The BRIDGE Builders. The BRIDGE builders, the student leadership team for the program, offer their own story about being a student at UA, provide academic and career develop mentorship, give tips for getting involved on campus, and help construct an unforgettable kickoff experience for new BRIDGE students each August.
The BRIDGE experience begins with a weeklong kickoff event for first-year students led by a group of upper-level student leaders called the BRIDGE Builders. The kickoff event will take place August 11-16, 2024 with early move-in available for first-year BRIDGE students.
After the kickoff event, first-year BRIDGE students, along with upper-level BRIDGE students, engage in weekly study hall sessions, participate in BRIDGE-specific academic support, engage in campus leadership programs, leverage UA resources, participate in social events, travel to industry for industry site visits and participate in community service events.
First-year BRIDGE students have the option to participate in the BRIDGE Living-Learning Community (BRIDGE LLC), which is housed in John England Jr. Hall. In addition to the LLC, first-year BRIDGE students have the option to enroll in a shared academic course.
As a member of the BRIDGE community, students participate in activities that introduce them to student involvement opportunities, set goals for their time at UA, meet other first-year men and network with upper-level men and the larger UA community.
