TLC Living Learning Communities

What is a Living-Learning Community?

A Living‑Learning Community (LLC) is a residential experience that brings together students who want extra support, connection, and engagement during their college journey. LLCs mix where you live with how you learn, giving you a built‑in community of peers, access to mentors, and programming designed to help you feel supported academically, socially, and personally. The Legacy Collective offers optional LLC options for both first‑year and second‑year students.

First & Second-Year Living-Learning Communities

First‑Year TLC LLC | John England Jr. Hall

optional, first-year students only

The first‑year TLC Living‑Learning Community (LLC) is located in John England Jr. Hall, where a cohort of TLC students live and learn together throughout their first year. This LLC is optional but highly encouraged for new TLC students seeking community support from day one.

  • Community Features
    • A Resident Assistant who is an upper‑level TLC student and a built‑in support resource.
    • Monthly events in the residence hall, Russell Hall, and the UA Student Center to help you connect socially and academically.
    • A shared academic course that strengthens study habits and classroom community (UA 101: Legends, required for all first-year UA students).
    • A UA faculty or staff mentor who supports your transition to college life.
    • An upper‑level mentor in your academic college or with shared interests.

Housing Process

Students who select the TLC LLC will not participate in UA’s general room selection process. TLC staff work directly with Housing and Residential Communities to pair roommates and place students into rooms on the TLC floor.

How to Join

Indicate your interest in the first-year England Hall LLC on your TLC application and complete the required steps in UA Housing. The Housing and Residential Communities office establishes the official timeline and priority dates each year, which the TLC staff will communicate to any first-year student selected for the England Hall living-learning community. The priority deadline to indicate interest in the first-year LLC is May 1, 2026.

Second‑Year TLC LLC | Ridgecrest East Hall

optional, second-year students only

After completing your first year, TLC students have the option to join a small upper‑level Living‑Learning Community located in Ridgecrest East Hall, continuing the support and community you experienced as a first‑year.

  • Second-Year LLC Benefits
    • Live with other second‑year TLC students who share academic goals and campus involvement.
    • Continued access to peer mentors and faculty/staff support.
    • Community‑building events and programs tailored to second‑year needs (identity, major exploration, leadership skills, career development).
    • A quieter, more focused, upper‑level environment designed to help students deepen academic engagement and step into campus leadership roles.

How to Join

You will indicate interest in the second-year LLC during the spring semester of your freshman year. TLC staff will communicate the selection timelines and handle roommate matching while Housing and Residential Communities manages the placement process.
