TLC Week

TLC Week is your jump-start to the year – a weeklong, high-energy experience led by TLC student leaders and our staff. You will move in early (if living on campus), meet your cohort, learn the campus inside out, and set up your academic toolkit before the first day of class.TLC Week is required for first-year TLC students.

Dates & Move-In

  • TLC Week is August 8-14, 2026.
  • First-year students living on campus will move into their dorm on Saturday, August 8, 2026. You will move into your assigned dorm for the year.

Before TLC Week

  • Bama Bound:
    • Attend Bama Bound orientation prior to TLC Week (May/June/July sessions recommended)
  • Early Move-In:
    • On-campus students: If you will live on campus for the academic year, you’ll be able to move into your assigned residence hall early as part of TLC Week. UA Housing and Residential Communities will share the specific check‑in details and timeline as we get closer to August. Once you move in for TLC Week, you’ll stay in your room for the rest of the year—no additional move‑in is needed. All on‑campus TLC students must be fully moved in and ready to join us by the evening of August 8.
    • Off-campus students: If you are living off campus, you will need to arrange your own housing accommodations for TLC Week at the place where you plan to live during the fall semester. TLC does not provide temporary housing for off‑campus students, so please make sure your move‑in plans are confirmed ahead of time. All off‑campus TLC students must be settled into their housing and prepared to begin with us the evening of August 8.
  • Special Accommodations:
    • If you require special accommodations, please contact us to make appropriate arrangements at thelegacycollective@ua.edu or 205-348-2408.

During TLC Week

  • Attendance:
    • All first-year TLC students are expected to be in attendance and participate at all scheduled TLC Week activities. You cannot participate in other early arrival programs (i.e. Camp 1831, Band Camp, Honors Action, fraternity or sorority recruitment, Biology Bootcamp or any other campus program that conflicts with August 8-14, 2026). You must make a choice for which early arrival program you wish to do. Once you check-in, you are demonstrating your commitment to participating in all program activities. Our staff maintains a level of responsibility for where participants are located, and we want you to receive the full benefits of participating in TLC Week for the entire program. We promise you won’t regret it! Note that dinner with family, leaving town, and other conflicts are not considered extenuating circumstances for not participating in program activities.
  • Check-In
    • Bring your virtual Action Card to check-in on the first day. Note: Any student who arrives late or misses check-in must contact the TLC staff  by calling 205-348-2408 or emailing thelegacycollective@ua.edu.
  • Parking Information
    • If you live in on-campus housing, you should park your car in your residential zone. For students who live off-campus, you may park in UA Student Center Parking Deck. Please visit the Transportation Services Website for information about parking and transportation on campus.
  • Housing Accommodations
    • If you will live on campus in Fall 2026, you are able to participate in early move-in as a new TLC student. You will be able to move into your assigned residence hall room for the academic year. For participants living on campus, you may stay in your room for the remainder of your first year after you move-in for TLC Week. Early move-in information will be available in late Spring 2026.
    • If you live off-campus, you should plan to make accommodations for your living arrangements. If you are unsure of your options, please contact our office at 205-348-2408 or thelegacycollective@ua.edu.
  • Prepare to Unplug
    • As a new TLC student, you are encouraged not to use your phone during the program, unless it is for emergencies or quick check-ins with your family. There may be some activities where we encourage everyone to use their phone, but other than that, we just want you to be fully engaged for all activities!
  • In Case of Emergency
    • In the case of an emergency, contact UAPD at 205-348-5454 or the Capstone Center for Student Success at 205-348-7011. They will be able to get any necessary messages to the TLC staff.
