Wow, what a semester! This fall we had 99 students make the President's List and 249 make the Dean's List. Congratulations to all 348 of these fine scholars, and best wishes for continued success. If you haven't stopped by to sign our Hall of Fame yet, come do that soon!
Congratulations to the 119 CCSS students who made our Hall of Fame for the spring semester! These students earned at least a 3.5 GPA on 12 or more credit hours. We're so proud of their hard work and commitment to success!
Since we have temporarily relocated to the first floor of Russell, students are not currently able to sign the Hall of Fame. We are working on a creative solution - stay tuned!
One of our student employees, Resha Swanson, was recently selected to be a Summer Intern for the 2017 Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Internship Program! Resha says:
"Not only will I get to experience the history and culture of Washington D.C., but I will be working on Capitol Hill with seasoned Congresswomen and men. I hope this work will give me a better understanding of politics and the valuable experience and knowledge required to be an effective change-maker in society."
We're so proud of Resha and look forward to hearing all about this amazing experience when she joins us again in the fall. Congratulations!
Our final spotlight student this week is Sophia Mobayen of Tyrone's Blue Team. Sophia is a Restaurant and Hospitality Management Major, with a concentration in Meeting and Event Planning. She is a second semester freshman from California. Sophia encountered many adverse situations Fall 2016, but she is the epitome of resiliency and strength - with strong support from her family and friends, Sophia overcame the tough times and was still able to make the Dean's List for fall. She is an amazing student, but more importantly, Sophia is a quality person. Congrats!
Be sure to join us at 11:30 tomorrow in the Ferguson Center Great Hall as we celebrate Sophia and all the rest of our amazing students at our Honors Luncheon!
Tiffany Sison is a freshman Secondary Education-Language Arts major on Ms. K’s Pink Team. Last semester, she struggled with balancing family demands from afar while also maintaining her academics. Despite all the external static in her life, she earned a 3.9 GPA making the Dean’s List! Tiffany hails from San Diego, California; however, she has grown to love Alabama so much that she plans to reside her after graduation and teach in the public school system. Her students will be so lucky to have her!
Although she did not initially want to participate in extracurricular activities during her first year here at UA, Tiffany now works as a Peer Mentor in the Capstone Center for Student Success and a Teaching Assistant for Ms. K’s Compass courses. We are so proud of Tiffany and all her accomplishments this year!
Brianna Smith is Adam's choice for the Purple Team student spotlight. After earning a 4.0 GPA in the fall (including an A+ in biology 114!), Brianna has joined the Honors College this spring as she works on her pre-pharmacy program. She is a first-generation college student with no shortage of drive and determination - over the summer, Brianna plans to knock out a few more credit hours at her local community college. Keep up the excellent work, Brianna!
Happy Honors Week, scholars! Each day this week (except Friday), we'll feature a student nominated by their coach for recognition. On Friday, we look forward to recognizing these students in person - along with the rest of our amazing students - at our Honors Luncheon.
Christopher Rogers of the Green Team is Jonie's spotlight student. Chris is doing very well in the Director's Remediation program after a rough start last fall. He meets regularly with his success coach and his peer mentor, and he's involved in several student organizations: No Labels, Future Black Law Students Association, Ripple Effect, and the Pre-Law Student Association. We at the Capstone Center are very proud of Chris for his commitment to success!
Our super-star students had a great Fall semester: 23 made the President's List (all A's) and a whopping 130 made the Dean's List (GPA of 3.5 or higher). We are so proud of your accomplishments and look forward to seeing what you achieve this spring!
