Here are some tips and hints to help you make the most of your walk- in tutorial experience with us.
- Come prepared. Preparing for a session ahead of time (having reading assignments complete, questions prepared, and materials like your laptop, book, and class notes on hand) will help you get the most out of your session.
- Make it count. Always remember to Swipe-in/Swipe-out/Sign-in/Sign-out. We ask that you swipe in and out using your action card at designated stations and sign-in/sign-out on the sheets provided. This helps us know you are here to receive services and helps us ensure we maintain an adequate number of staff members to provide services.
- Raise your hand to get a tutors attention if you have a question or need assistance during a walk- in session.
- Seek assistance early and attend sessions often. Students’ who seek out assistance and resources early in the semester, develop regular study habits, start working on assignments early and work consistently to master course material throughout the semester tend to academically perform better in their courses than students who wait to seek assistance right before an exam or due date.
- You don’t have to stay for the entire session. While you may benefit from staying for an entire session, (walk-in/review sessions are generally offered in a two hour blocks) students can seek assistance anytime within the scheduled two hour time frame.
- Our sessions are peer led. It is always a good idea to keep a working relationship with your instructors and direct lecture questions and course concerns to them. While tutors have demonstrated a high degree of academic achievement in the courses they tutor, are recommended by faculty members and receive several hours of training, they may not have all the answers. We may not be the best resource at UA for the course you need assistance with and we may suggest alternative or additional resources to you.
- Evaluate our services at swipe-out or during survey times. Your feedback helps us demonstrate the need for additional resources and helps us improve our services & programs.
- We can’t do it for you. Our goal is to help you learn key concepts, and develop strategies to help you master course material for you to apply to your own course work. Staff will not assist with graded or a homework assignment, as doing so is considered a violation of the academic code of conduct.
